The Land Singing is an interactive piece formulating a parallel between bio-diversity in plants and cultural diversity in human society. Its creation is entirely open to the participation of the public. It is in three parts, instrument, plants, people. The project was supported by Koneen Säätiö.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE
We have prepared an environment inside a yurt tent to host people who are inclined to observe as well as people who like to participate actively.Ripples of rhythmic action counterpoint an immersive slow atmosphere.
Everybody is welcome! Find our tent and join in. If You happen to have plant seeds from any place in the world or if You have an acoustic instrument, please take them with You!
Anybody who takes pictures and video, please post them in Internet with tag #thelandsinging
COLLABORATIONS
The work has been realized in collaboration with Maatiainen (Association for conserving traditional varieties of plants, animals and rural landscapes), and thanks to the support of Kone Foundation and Catalysti Association of Transcultural Artists in Finland.
Ceramic vases were made in collaboration with Kaisu Hirvonen.
OUR LINK WITH THE FESTIVAL'S THEME - JUSTICE:
"The systematic subtraction of agricultural resources, unsustainable agricultural policies, and forced displacement of population from rural to urban areas are at the core of social and political inequality leading to the present conflicts", the Guardian alarmingly refers to recent researches by Radboud University and by the University of California (article September 2015).
In Europe, while Syrian, Iraqis and Palestinian refugees reach Finland, we are undergoing the concealed negotiation on Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, where at closed doors governments and corporations are re-writing workers rights, animal rights, environmental politics, food production and health standards, copyright and patent laws, and proposing the privatization of natural resources.
The acute state of crisis constitutes an important chance to challenge the planetary imbalances, by taking one bite at the time.
THE ARTISTS
Egle Oddo and Timo Tuhkanen have been working in joint projects since 2011.
In their practice they match visual art, music and live art, often addressing topical issues and more often fantasizing of parallel worlds.
Busy with large-scale DIY experiments, they generate environments as a result of contemporary use of process art. They combine industrial materials with delicate handcraft, selected trash with fashion, precious minerals and ancestral recipes to convey rituals and collective actions.
Narrative as an art form is present in their communication with public.
Their work has been previously shown at Mänttä kuvatsideviikot, Mad House Helsinki, Gallery Augusta HIAP, Oksasenkatu 11, Bikini Wax gallery, Italian Pavilion in the World.
